On 23 April 2026, representatives of EuChemS Professional Networks gathered online for the Spring Meeting of Professional Networks (PNs), bringing together division and working party board members, EuChemS leadership, and invited guests to discuss key strategic, scientific, and organisational developments across the European chemistry community.
EuChemS President Angela Agostiano opened the meeting by highlighting the importance of collaboration, dialogue, and scientific cooperation in today’s challenging global environment. She also shared updates on EuChemS activities, including science-policy engagement on PFAS, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and strengthened partnerships with publishers and scientific organisations.
A major focus of the meeting was the preparation for the 10th EuChemS Chemistry Congress (ECC10), to be held in Antwerp in 2026. Thomas Vranken presented the latest updates on registrations, scientific programming, sponsorship, and opportunities for Professional Networks to organise meetings and activities during the congress.
Financial matters were presented by EuChemS Treasurer Hans Peter Lüthi, who reviewed the positive 2025 financial results while also underlining the need for sustainable funding of EuChemS core activities.
EuChemS Secretary General Nineta Hrastelj lead the reviewed actions from the 2025 annual meeting in Poznań, including ongoing work on collaboration with publishers, conference agreements, codes of conduct for representatives, and increased visibility of EuChemS-recognised events.
An important discussion addressed the future development of online courses by Professional Networks. Participants were invited to consider new educational topics for the EuChemS online learning platform, particularly in areas such as ethics, interdisciplinary science, inclusion, diversity, and innovative teaching approaches.
The next in-person annual meeting of EuChemS Professional Networks will take place in Belgrade, Serbia, on 14 October 2026.
