GDCh Science Forum 2023

The GDCh Science Forum Chemistry (WiFo) 2023 will take place from 4-6 September in Leipzig/Germany. The most important chemistry congress in the German-speaking region with about 1500 participants from Germany and abroad is organized by the German Chemical Society (GDCh).

‘Rethinking Chemistry’ will be the guiding theme this year, which the GDCh’s Board has also chosen as GDCh’s motto. “For me, ‘Rethinking Chemistry’ is not just a slogan, but a guiding principle that drives me in my daily work”, says GDCh President Karsten Danielmeier. “’Rethinking Chemistry’ is more important than ever in order to meet the most urgent challenges of our time, such as climate change, energy scarcity and new legislation such as the European Green Deal.”

Two plenary symposia will also pick up on the motto of the Science Forum, which will be held under the themes of ‘Rethinking Chemistry’ – Concepts and ‘Rethinking Chemistry’ – Sustainability Strategies. Internationally renowned scientists will present their research in these plenary symposia, such as Leroy “Lee” Cronin, University of Glasgow, UK and John Warner, Zymergen Inc., Emeryville CA, US.

In addition, the division lectures will take place as well, so that participants can keep up-to-date of the latest developments in their fields. The topics Synthesis and Catalysis, Materials, Energy, Resources and Environment, Life Sciences, Chemistry Education and Interdisciplinary Symposia will cover the broad spectrum of Chemistry and show where chemists can contribute to contemporary solutions to current problems in cooperation with other sciences.

A poster session will enable young scientists in particular to present themselves. The conference language will mainly be English and we especially invite foreign scientists to join the WiFo. Members of the GDCh and of all EuChemS member societies benefit from reduced prices. More information: https://www.wifo2023.de/en
