The Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Geel, one of the six sites of the European Commission’s JRC, opened its doors to the public on Sunday, 5 October 2025, for its annual Open Day. The JRC provides independent, evidence-based scientific support for EU policies, helping policymakers ensure that laws and regulations truly benefit European citizens in areas such as safety, health, security, and prosperity.
During the Open Day, visitors had the opportunity to explore EU laboratories and engage in hands-on scientific measurements. The event offered a chance to see how research conducted at the JRC supports policies and decisions that affect millions of Europeans. Participants could choose from a variety of guided tours to learn about the diverse research carried out at the Geel site.
EuChemS took part in the Open Day, engaging with JRC scientists and exploring how scientific evidence underpins European policymaking. The event highlighted the importance of connecting research with citizens and showcased how science contributes to a more informed and trusting society.
