EuChemS took part in the European Research & Innovation Days 2025, the European Commission’s flagship event that gathered policymakers, researchers, and industry representatives to discuss Europe’s priorities for research and innovation. The two-day event provided a key opportunity for EuChemS to engage with stakeholders on how research policy can better support chemistry and the broader scientific community across Europe.
The programme featured over 20 sessions covering Europe’s competitiveness, industrial leadership, and strategic research initiatives. Discussions included the Startup and Scaleup Strategy, the European Life Sciences Strategy, the AI in Science Strategy, and the European Innovation and European Research Area Acts. Through high-level panels, interactive breakouts, and networking sessions, participants explored the links between policy decisions and real-world impact across the European research and innovation ecosystem.
Highlights included a keynote address by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and opening remarks by Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva. Leading voices from EU institutions, science, and industry also contributed, including Commission Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen and science communicator Lucy Hawking.
Building on its continued engagement in European research policy, EuChemS works to highlight the important role of chemistry in addressing societal challenges such as sustainability, energy, health, and innovation. Through its policy activities and contributions, EuChemS supports the development of an inclusive and collaborative European Research Area.
