In late spring 2025, EuChemS actively contributed to three high-level events dedicated to science-policy dialogue, reaffirming the central role of chemistry in shaping Europe’s future.
On 26 May, EuChemS took part in the “Shaping the European Framework for Science Diplomacy” conference in Vienna, hosted by the European Commission’s Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM). The event explored ways to embed science diplomacy more deeply into EU policymaking. Through panel discussions, rapid-fire idea pitches, and strategic exchanges, participants examined how to reinforce Europe’s science-for-policy ecosystem.
Just days later, on 2 June, EuChemS joined researchers and regulators in Brussels for the annual Cefic-LRI Workshop, organised by the Long-Range Research Initiative of the European Chemical Industry Council. The workshop focused on how science can guide safer chemical regulation and sustainable innovation. Key discussions addressed topics such as dermal exposure to micro- and nanoplastics, improved biodegradation testing, and tiered chemical assessment models. By participating, EuChemS reinforced its commitment to promoting research-based chemical safety and its alignment with European sustainability goals.
On 4 June, EuChemS was present at the high-level summit “Shaping Europe’s Future: Research and Innovation at the Heart of European Leadership” in Brussels, hosted by STOA and the G6 alliance of top European research organisations. The event brought together major EU policymakers, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Discussions highlighted how research and innovation underpin Europe’s strategic leadership, with von der Leyen outlining bold plans to strengthen Horizon Europe, attract global talent, and bridge the gap between science and market impact.
Across these three events, EuChemS amplified the voice of the chemical sciences, advocated for evidence-based policy, and built bridges between research, innovation, and societal need.
