From 8 to 12 June 2025, the city of Belgrade hosted the 19th International Conference on Chemistry and the Environment (ICCE 2025), a major scientific event focused on the intersection of chemistry, environmental science, and public policy. Organised by the EuChemS Division of Chemistry and the Environment (DCE), the conference brought together researchers, policymakers, and industry experts from across Europe and beyond.

The conference opened with a welcome address by EuChemS President Angela Agostiano, who acknowledged the importance of interdisciplinary dialogue in shaping sustainable solutions. In her remarks, she expressed appreciation to the organisers and partners who helped make the event possible, including Aleksandra Dapčević, Secretary of the Serbian Chemical Society; Melina Krušić, Acting President of the Serbian Chemical Society; Roland Kallenborn, Chair of EuChemS DCE, Ioannis Katsoyiannis, former Chair of the EuChemS DCE and former President of the Association of Greek Chemists; Dušan Sladić, former President of the Serbian Chemical Society; Ivana Ivančev-Tumbas, ICCE 2025 Chair; and Slavica Ražić, Member of the EuChemS Executive Board.

Angela Agostiano introduced EuChemS to attendees as the collective voice of European chemical societies, dedicated to supporting scientific excellence and providing science-based guidance for policymaking across the continent. She emphasised the organisation’s commitment to fostering collaboration across disciplines and borders, particularly in areas where chemical research can contribute to environmental protection and sustainability.

ICCE 2025 served as a timely platform for exchanging ideas, sharing research breakthroughs, and strengthening cross-sector alliances—reinforcing chemistry’s critical role in addressing environmental challenges.
