Strengthening global cooperation: EuChemS at IUPAC 2025 in Kuala Lumpur

At IUPAC 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, EuChemS Vice-President Floris Rutjes and other representatives joined global discussions on chemistry’s role in sustainability. During the event, Floris Rutjes was elected to the IUPAC Science Board, highlighting his contributions to international cooperation in the chemical sciences.

EuChemS Vice-President Floris Rutjes, alongside several members of the EuChemS Executive Board and Professional Networks, participated in the 2025 IUPAC General Assembly and the 50th World Chemistry Congress (50WCC), held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Organised under the theme “Chemistry for a Sustainable Future,” the Congress brought together chemists and chemical societies from around the world to discuss the role of chemistry in addressing some of today’s most pressing sustainability challenges, from clean energy and climate resilience to materials innovation and health.

As part of the Congress proceedings, Floris Rutjes was elected to the IUPAC Science Board, an important recognition of his continued commitment to advancing international scientific collaboration and contributing to the development of the chemical sciences on a global scale.
