In March, EuChemS had the pleasure of participating in the ACS Spring 2025 meeting in San Diego, where transatlantic collaboration, science-policy engagement, and community recognition were central to several meaningful exchanges.
EuChemS Secretary General Nineta Hrastelj and Vice-President Floris Rutjes met with Albert Horvath, Chief Executive Officer of the American Chemical Society (ACS), and LaTrease Garrison, Chief Operating Officer of ACS, to discuss key areas of cooperation under the EuChemS–ACS Memorandum of Understanding. The conversation focused on upcoming initiatives around the 10th EuChemS Chemistry Congress (ECC10), current joint efforts in science-policy advocacy, and the 4th Employment Survey for European Chemists (ESEC4), among other topics.
In addition to these governance discussions, they had the opportunity to connect with Mary Carroll, Immediate Past President of ACS, newly elected 2025 ACS President-Elect, Rigoberto Hernandez, who will take office as President in 2026 and serve as Immediate Past President in 2027, and numerous colleagues from both the US and Europe, reinforcing the strength and importance of our international scientific community.
Nineta Hrastelj was also honoured to speak at a special symposium celebrating Rachel Mamlok-Naaman, recipient of the 2025 ACS Award for Encouraging Women into Careers in the Chemical Sciences. The session spotlighted Rachel’s remarkable contributions to chemistry education and her leadership as Immediate Past Chair of the EuChemS Division of Chemical Education.

Congratulations once again to Rachel for her inspiring work and ongoing commitment to diversity and excellence in science — and thanks to ACS for the warm welcome and the opportunity to continue strengthening our collaboration.
