The Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) held its General Assembly on 10 December 2025, bringing together members to review progress, discuss future priorities, and conclude the 2025 governance elections. The meeting highlighted the strong engagement of the CoARA community and its shared commitment to reforming research assessment practices.
Voting took place between 25 November and 10 December 2025 and resulted in the appointment of three members to the CoARA Steering Board. Janne Pölönen (Finnish Federation of Learned Societies) was re-elected following the completion of his two-year term and will now take on the role of Vice Chair. Oliver Günther (University of Potsdam) and Kalpana Chaudhari (Institute for Sustainable Development and Research Reforms) join the Steering Board as newly elected members.
The new appointees succeed Vice Chair Elizabeth Gadd and Luciana Balboa, whose terms have concluded. In addition to the election results, members validated an update to the CoARA Rules of Procedure, which will enter into force in 2026.
EuChemS is proud to be an active member of CoARA and to contribute to its work through participation in the TIER Working Group, supporting the advancement of responsible and transparent research assessment across Europe.
