The 50th IUPAC World Chemistry Congress and 53rd General Assembly were held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 12–19 July 2025 under the theme “Chemistry for a Sustainable Future”. The conference was very well organized and had an excellent line-up of speakers, among which a plenary lecture from the recent Nobel Prize winner Omar Yaghi. The meeting was also a platform to catch-up with colleagues from outside Europe and learn more about the chemistry research in Asia and in Malaysia in particular. EuChemS was well represented on this meeting by members of the Executive Board and of the Professional Networks, thereby promoting European scientific values, advancing global cooperation, and shaping the strategic direction of international chemistry.

EuChems contributions were delivered in scientific talks, but also in other types of events like the President’s Forum, which saw its second successful edition with discussions between presidents of national chemical societies. Beyond scientific discussions, EuChemS participation served a broader diplomatic role, namely linking Europe’s chemical community with counterparts in Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The meeting offered an outstanding platform for strengthening partnerships and identifying new avenues for collaborative efforts addressing global challenges such as climate change and clean energy.

The presence of EuChemS at IUPAC 2025 thus reaffirmed its commitment to advancing chemistry as a key to sustainable development and to ensure that Europe remains an important partner in shaping the future of global chemistry.
