The event, which was attended by EuChemS online, was opened by Joint Research Centre Acting Director-General Bernard Magenhann. The morning session consisted of three thematic dialogues with high-profile speakers, each of which connected to a key aspect of INCITE: transformation, innovation and resources. These high-level conversations reflected on the objectives of INCITE, and the challenges they face. The chemical industry, and the importance of sustainable chemistry also received the spotlight at the talk of Daniel Witthaut, Executive Director for Innovation, European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC).
As an innovation centre, INCITE’s stated objectives are to achieve “depollution and decarbonisation” while maintaining a competitive and circular economy. They aim to do it through the promotion of research and innovation and the facilitation of access to financing. In addition to an innovation centre however, INCITE also intends to serve as a place where relevant actors can connect – which was also discussed at the event.
The afternoon session tackled more practical topics, such as the legislative dimensions of INCITE, the benefits it offers for potential investors, and a live presentation of the online platform through which the initiative will be possible to access. The event was closed by Director for Zero Pollution, DG Environment at the European Commission, Veronica Manfredi, who interacts with EuChemS at the Zero Pollution Stakeholder Platform.
