On 5–6 May 2026, EuChemS participated in the 3rd INCITE Workshop on Innovative Techniques for the Management of PFAS in sectors covered by the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED), held as a hybrid event.

The workshop attracted more than 460 participants, including 75 in-person attendees and 385 online participants, highlighting the strong interest across Europe in addressing the challenges posed by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

Bringing together representatives from industry, technology providers, research and technology organisations, Member State authorities, environmental NGOs, academia and European Commission agencies, the workshop created a unique platform for dialogue among all major stakeholders involved in PFAS management. Discussions focused on the latest policy developments, scientific advances and industrial innovations, providing a comprehensive overview of the challenges and opportunities related to PFAS emissions, monitoring and remediation.

A particular highlight of the workshop was the second day, which focused on innovative technologies for PFAS treatment. Participants exchanged views on the maturity and environmental performance of emerging techniques, as well as their cost-effectiveness, permitting requirements, implementation barriers and potential trade-offs.

Through its participation, EuChemS contributed to ongoing exchanges supporting science-based and sustainable approaches to managing PFAS — one of Europe’s most pressing chemical and environmental challenges.

The INCITE team also announced the continuation of its information-gathering activities and invited innovators, technology providers and operators to submit information on innovative techniques through the INCITE information platform.

The collected information will contribute to the preparation of the next annual INCITE report (TRIT), scheduled for publication in 2027.

Looking ahead, the next INCITE sectoral workshop will focus on the pulp and paper industry and is scheduled to take place on 21–22 October 2026.
