EuChemS celebrates a remarkable milestone as Professor Jean-Marie Lehn, Nobel Laureate, has been awarded the 2025 Primo Levi Prize. The accolade was formally presented on 3 December 2025 during a distinguished ceremony held in the Sala Zuccari of the Italian Senate in Rome.

The Primo Levi Prize, a joint initiative of the Italian Chemical Society (SCI) and the German Chemical Society (GDCh), recognises chemists whose work embodies ethical responsibility, human rights advocacy, and a dedication to bridging science and society. The prize commemorates Primo Levi, chemist, author, and Holocaust survivor, honouring his enduring belief in the social conscience of science.

Professor Lehn’s award highlights his lifelong commitment to fostering international scientific collaboration and reinforcing the idea that chemistry transcends borders, politics, and historical divides. His vision of science as a shared European enterprise has inspired generations of chemists to pursue knowledge in a spirit of cooperation and dialogue.

The award ceremony welcomed prominent figures from the European chemical community, including EuChemS President Angela Agostiano and President-Elect Wolfram Koch. Their presence underscored the significance of the prize in recognising scientists who advance not only research but also societal values.

EuChemS joins colleagues across Europe and around the world in congratulating Professor Lehn for this prestigious recognition, celebrating a career that exemplifies both scientific excellence and social responsibility.
