RSC President Annette Doherty hosted the RSC President’s Lunch and President’s Reception during the day, which was followed by the society’s annual Summer Party.
On the invite of the President, as well as RSC CEO Helen Pain, EuChemS Secretary General Nineta Hrastelj attended the President’s Lunch, where she met with prominent representatives of the global chemistry community, including numerous high-profile RSC members, the current and former President of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), Ehud Keinan and Javier Garcia-Martinez, as well as President of the South African Chemical Institute (SACI) Zenixole Tshentu.
The lunch was followed by the President’s Reception, and the announcement of the 2024 Honorary Fellows of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Six people were awarded with this title this year, amongst them EuChemS Past-President David Cole-Hamilton, and IUPAC Past-President Javier Garcia-Martinez. With the naming of David Cole-Hamilton as Honorary RSC Fellow, EuChemS now can boast of two former Presidents holding this Honorary Fellowship: in 2020, Pilar Goya, the first female President of EuChemS between 2018-2020 also received this honour. She attended this year’s event as well, meeting with Nineta Hrastelj and David Cole-Hamilton amongst others.
After the President’s Reception, numerous members of the global chemistry community gathered at the RSC’s Summer Party. The aim of this annual, informal event is celebrate the community, and the achievements of the discipline. Many attendees of the party were also members of or affiliated with EuChemS.
