The consultation “Horizon Europe – interim evaluation” opened on 01 December 2022 and closed on 23 February 2023. Alongside numerous stakeholders and citizens, EuChemS also submitted a response.
On the morning of 14 February, the EuChemS’s 2023 Global Women’s Breakfast was held. The title of the event, “Women scientists at the forefront of global conflicts” described the important, yet not often discussed topic.
The first 2023 meeting of the Executive Board of the European Chemical Society was held in Thessaloniki, Greece, on 9-10 February.

Since its first edition in 1969, the meeting has been traditionally organized every two years by the Croatian Society of Chemical Engineers and the Croatian Chemical Society. It gathers around 400–500 chemists and chemical engineers from Croatia and neighbouring countries that, coming from academia, institutes and industry, actively participate and contribute to the success of the meeting with posters and oral presentations.

On 1 March afternoon, the draft reports on Ozone Depleting Substances and F-Gases passed the vote at the meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) . The Committee debated matters on Substances of Human Origins (SoHO) the following day.
The United Nations’ ad hoc open-ended working group (OEWG) is laying down the groundwork for the establishment of a science-policy panel. Such panel was called for by many organisations, including EuChemS on multiple occasions.
On 1 February, the European Commission presented the Green Deal Industrial plan. This follows the United States’ Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) as friction arises with regards to economic aspects of sustainable industry between the US and the EU.
