The European Sustainable Chemistry Award recognises the achievements of individual scientists and teams who make an outstanding contribution to sustainable development by applying green and sustainable chemistry. Professor Arjan W. Kleij from the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) based in Tarragona (Spain) did so by pioneering research in the area of CO2 utilisation and especially synthesis and applications of cyclic carbonates.

The award, through recognising outstanding achievements, aims to promote innovation in chemistry and chemicals that will deliver clear improvements in the sustainable production and use of chemicals and chemical products and demonstrate that chemistry and chemicals can play a central role in delivering society’s needs, while minimising and solving environmental problems.

The EuChemS Sustainable SCA 2023 will be presented to Arjan W. Kleij at 6th EuChemS Conference on Green and Sustainable Chemistry (6EuGSC), that will be held on 3 – 6 September 2023 (https://6eugsc.org/).
