On 26 May, the European Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) entered into force. CRMA aims to ensure that the EU is supplied with materials that are critical for industry in a sustainable and secure manner.

On 5 April, the international Minerals Security Partnership Forum (MSP Forum) was launched. This is set to bolster international cooperation related to Critical Raw Materials (CRMs), essential for green technologies, as well as innovation and industry in general.

CRM are also relevant for EuChemS, as the EuChemS Periodic Table workshop series examines many of them in-depth.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen addressed the role of innovation in the Green Transition, as well as the topic of Critical Raw Materials (CRM), amongst other topics, at her speech at this year’s State of the Union (SOTEU), highlighting the importance of these science-policy related topics for the EU.
