The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) launched the “Global Women’s Breakfast” event series in 2019 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of IUPAC, with the main aim of promoting the expansion of the network of female chemists, both locally and internationally. The event is held on the second Tuesday of February in all parts of the world. The Hungarian Chemical Society (MKE) has joined the initiative from the beginning.

This year’s announced international theme #GWB2025 “Accelerating Equity in Science” was also linked to the “International Year of Quantum Science and Technology”. The date of the MKE-GWB2025 event was February 11th, and the venue was the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE). Taking advantage of the same venue, we joined the 2025 Analytical Meeting and the Labortex EXPO program with our event this year.

We invited two renowned researchers as speakers in the international topic. Ágnes Szabados, Professor at the Institute of Chemistry at ELTE, gave a summary lecture entitled “A Hundred Years of Quantum Chemistry, Hungarian Aspects”, introducing the audience to prominent representatives of the field and their main results.

The other lecture was given by Andrea Bodor, Professor at the Institute of Chemistry at ELTE, on her own research field entitled “Disordered Proteins in NMR Spectroscopy: From Atomic Characterization to Understanding Biological Function”. The event was attended by a large mixed audience, perhaps also thanks to the parallel event. We would like to thank the speakers for their extremely high-quality presentations and the participants for their contribution to the good-natured discussion.

See you again in February 2026!
